¥

The Nuyen (¥) is the primary currency of the Sixth World, introduced in Japan in 2012 to replace the older Yen. With the granting of policy control of the monetary unit to the Zurich-Orbital Gemeinschaft Bank in 2036, the currency became a globally-accepted reserve currency. It is acceptable everywhere and is the official currency of Australia, California, Denver, Japan, the Native American Nations, Philippines, and Tir Tairngire.

For the shadowrunner, information might the only thing of real value, but nuyen is the only real means of transferring that value. Without nuyen, you're without medical care, gear, runners - and quite likely, very dead, very soon.

Campaigns[ | ]

  • In Deadman's Switch, nuyen is very plentiful. As few as 1-2 well built and equipped runners can accomplish many missions so there's much to be saved by avoiding extensive hiring of them.
  • In Dragonfall, nuyen is fairly plentiful. Avoid waste where possible.
  • In Hong Kong, nuyen is much tighter than in the other campaigns. Remember that consumables owned by NPCs (not loaned to them) are replenished after every return to Heoi.
