Earwig is a mission in Dragonfall.

Synopsis[ | ]

OTK International is a small-time software developer, and it shows. The company's main office is crammed up against the back wall of a massive shared office park, surrounded by competing businesses and larger corporations. A steady trickle of dead-eyed wageslaves flows in and out of the complex.

The office park's main entrance is overflowing with hired security, but your forged keycard gets you past them easily enough. A few minutes later, you're walking the winding corridors toward OTK International. You're only a few smashed computers away from putting Amsel's plan into motion.

Walkthrough[ | ]

  • Welcome to OTK. Hope you brought your flak vest. Enter the room beyond once you're done spending Karma.
  • In the room next to you, there's a wageslave busily tapping away at the computer. You can reveal yourself or sneak up on him to scare him or knock him out (you need Quickness 4 to sneak up on him and Close Combat 4 to knock him out). If you aren't aggressive, you can convince him that you're a fellow contractor (Charisma 4). He will groan, then leave, as he's 36 hours at work and was supposed to clock out 45 minutes ago. Bluffing your way through is worth 1 karma.
  • Snapping his neck also awards 1 karma. Be sure to grab the lab coat off his body.

Access to Executive door[ | ]

  • The room beyond contains the supervisor's office. Inspect the desk, which contains drawers and a terminal. You can open the drawers using Strength 5, or with Intelligence 3 surmise that you have to use the terminal to open it. With Decking 5 you can bypass the terminal and open the drawer to get a supervisor's ID. Alternatively, look around the office and deduce that login is swilliams and password is 0629.
  • The conference room allows you to send a drone through to the other side. If you do, note that there are security guards inside. You can convince them to let you pass with Etiquette Security as posing as a Knight Errand, charm your way through with Cha 4 or by flashing the supervisor's ID at them.
  • The room accessed through the conference room directly allows you to jack in and open the executive door. Be warned, though, there's three white IC waiting within.

Reunite with your Team[ | ]

  • The maintenance room at the end of the hall allows you to let your team inside. If you do, a janitor will enter the room and confront you. With Etiquette Corporate or Cha 5, you can easily bluff your way past her. Otherwise, convince her that you're part of the work force (NOT a friend of the boss) by saying you stepped out for a soykaf and focus on the fact that you've been working for 72 hours - and if she asks, the soykaf went to a person in need. If you have Cha 5, you are wearing normal clothes to feel like a normal person again. If you do not have Cha 5, you were splashed with muddy water while waiting at a traffic light. Offer to change back into your muddy work clothes, which will track mud all over the floors, and she will finally stand down and let you in. Bluffing your way through her is worth 1 karma.
    • Obviously, she will not ask about your attire if you're wearing the lab coat.
  • It is possible to skip this objective if the player's character is a decker, by simply not opening the door, bluffing the guards and doing the matrix run solo. This will prevent the janitor from appearing, and jacking in before letting your team in will place the player into combat mode until the end of the mission, even if no enemies are alerted.

Destroying the commlink system[ | ]

  • To destroy the data node, you need to access the central server in the reception area. Curiously, the guards don't mind that one bit and will only go hostile if you trip an alarm while inside.
  • The central area has some white IC programs, but you can essentially run past them and not bother with them. The portal north leads to the commlink data note and a total of four IC. The one east contains the financial data server, where you can grab some paydata (OTK Financial Data) and 1 karma.

Alternatively, if you have no decker, you can fight the guards in the central room. One of them will drop a server room key. You can try to disable the drones in the "drone control" room. With Drone Control 4 you can destroy the drones, and Drone Control 6 allows you to turn them against the security guards. This applies to the 3 drones that come from behind the control room, not the 2 drones guarding the door. The server room is to the northeast of the central room. There you can smash three servers.

Recover Pay Data[ | ]

From second node, the SE portal will take you to the node that has commlink data. Note: approaching the portal will spawn white ICs. The paydata node has white ICs within. If you have not destroyed all the ICs in the outside room, they will crowd around the exit, so send an ESP through to distract them, or just wait for your AP to regenerate and sprint through.
